Will's Combined Gym and Writing update for mid-October

What a great day. Foot problems gone, cold gone. We went to the gym for the second time since the lockdown and had a great afternoon lifting. This morning our muscles feel comfortably tensed up. We'll get back there Thursday we think.

On a whim we got on the gym's electronic scale, it said 245. We got off and got back on, 245. Then we got on the gym's other electronic scale. 245. We were so confused we flagged down one of the staff and asked, 'These things working right?' She said they were. We didn't believe her. We asked about the old fashioned manual scale the gym used to have. She said it was in the women's locker room.

[Dear lord, you didn't ask if you could...-Ed]

No.

[But you thought about it...bloody perv-Ed]

When we went home we got on the electronic scale that's sat in the corner of the guest bathroom for months. 245.

That's three scales saying the same thing.

Still skeptical, we looked for other evidence. Just last week we could finally wear size 38 blue jeans. That converts to...says here it'd be a 38 it London too... [shrugs].  And...And...we see more of our appendix scar in the mirror than we have in a long, long time.

The evidence all points in the same direction. We've lost 15 pounds since the lockdown, that's just over a stone to you Brits. We're not going to convert our weight to metric numbers. We can't. We won't.

In other news we finished another chapter of World War 1990: Nederland. We got a bad feeling about this. That's perfectly normal. We've got one last chapter to edit.

We're slogging through The Great Nuclear War of 1975.  We've talked before about filling in the winter of 1976-77 with a half-assed Mexican invasion of the Southwest. We're thinking the fire is stoked by the Soviet embassy in Mexico City. This feels weak to us. Instead what if we moved the Korean War chapter to the winter of 1976-77? Writing that sentence just now we're thinking the Norks wouldn't wait that long to invade the south. They'd do it during the first winter, not the second.

Thirty cars, count 'em, thirty cars showed up to Joe's rally in Ohio yesterday. Also, to quote the president, 'Sleepy Joe Biden had a particularly bad day today. He couldn’t remember the name of Mitt Romney, said again he was running for the U.S. Senate, and forgot what State he was in. If I did any of this, it would be disqualifying. With him, he’s just Sleepy Joe!' Meanwhile Trump rocked in Sanford, Florida.

Yank goes Dutch

Our Dutch guy, whose is certainly smarter than we, has read the Nederland opener and the governmental chapter that follows PM Lubbers around as he deals with the invasion crisis. He seems generally pleased and entertained. At least the Lubbers chapter wasn't a total disaster.

No Dutchmen will read Nederland and think, 'By god, it's like this Stroock fellow has lived among us lo these many years. A handsome devil to boot.'

Well, he'll say that last part...

[Did you just come out?-Ed]

Which reminds us, this book will need an intro pointing out that while our name is Dutch, we're a Yank.

Adequate? Given the subject matters and obstacles we'll take it.
