Holocaust Remembrance Day

That's my great grandfather, for whom I am named, Lt. William Eisman, Luftwaffe, ca 1916. We inherited his nose and lip (heh, chicks dig the bottom lip thank you, great-grandfather).

After the war he wrote his sister in Chicago about coming to America. She sponsored him and in 1919 William Eisman crossed the Atlantic and settled in Louisiana where he met my grandmother's mother.

Anyway, before the war Jews, like other Americans corresponded with relations back in Europe.

So far as we know we have no close relatives in Europe, certainly no Stroocks.

IDF at Auschwitz

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 31st annual March of the Living at Auschwitz: 

AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU, Poland — The 2019 International March of the Living began on Thursday afternoon in the former Nazi death camp at Auschwitz, marking the murder of 6 million Jews by Nazi Germany in the Holocaust.

A delegation led by senior officials from around the world led a pack of more than 10,000 people in walking the three kilometers to the Birkenau death camp, where the event will culminate with the central ceremony. 

We've always liked this footage of a survivor escorted through the camp...by the IDF.

It's basically a giant F-You to the Nazis.

Remember the fate that awaits all enemies of the Jews.
