Via Ynet we learn that Israel has struck a military-scientific research facility on the outskirts of Damascus. This comes after an Israeli strike on an Iranian base, also on the outskirts of Damascus.
The Times of Israel says the end is nigh:
We think this is diplomatic hyperbole. Then again one day in late July we heard Saddam was mad at Kuwait. A few days later we woke up to an invasion.
Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, said Monday that his country is closer to a full-blown military conflict along its northern border than people think.
In a wide-ranging interview with US news site Politico, Dermer reiterated Israel’s assertion that it will not tolerate the presence of Iranian proxies in Syria.
“If Iran is not rolled back in Syria, then the chances of military confrontation are growing. I don’t want to tell you by the year or by the month. I’d say even by the week,” he said, accusing Tehran of stoking the tensions in Syria.
Never underestimate the Middle East.
During his last address to Congress, Prime Minister Netanyahu recalled that on the eve of the Six Day War, LBJ told PM Levi Eshkol, 'If you act alone, you'll be alone.'
