This Year in Jerusalem

Today President Trump will declare Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and announce plans to move the US Embassy there.

Via the Times of Israel:

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump will announce in a speech on Wednesday that he is formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, while asking the State Department to formulate a plan for moving the US embassy there from Tel Aviv, White House officials confirmed Tuesday evening.
Most Americans are thinking, 'Jerusalem isn't the capital of Israel?'

It is, but most nations don't recognize that, certainly not the Arabs. For example. Al Jizz 'reporters' in the city always announce they're broadcasting from 'Occupied Jerusalem', while the sexual-predators in the American media usually refer to 'Arab East Jerusalem' whatever that means.

Jerusalem was divided until 1967 and the Wailing Wall of Solomon's Temple was in enemy hands. During the war Israeli Paratroopers liberated the east and reunited the capital. For for the first time in 2000 years the temple was in Jewish hands.

This led to the most iconic photo in Israeli history:

Those are the Paratroopers standing before the wall.

The wall and the Jewish holy sites are in the eastern part of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is the physical capital of Israel and the spiritual center of Judaism. Most Jewish observances end with 'Next Year in Jerusalem.' It was necessary after 2000 years of exile.

  1. What is/was Tel Aviv then...or is that just a major city and nothing more?

  2. Just a big city. Founded in 1911, I think.
