Israel came to a standstill on Wednesday morning with a two-minute memorial siren at 11 a.m. commemorating the 23,646 fallen members of the security forces and 3,134 victims of terrorist attacks.
That's five major wars; 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 and 1982. Those interested in what a NATO-WP conflict would have looked like should read up on the 1973 Yom-Kippur War.
The Israelis whooped the Egyptians four times.
The 1982 invasion of Lebanon is interesting becuase the Israelis fought the Syrians and the terrorist PLO. The IAF scored an 86-0 victory against the Syrian Arab Air Force. From then on no Arab country wanted to fight a conventional war with the Israelis.
Instead, since 2002 Israel has fought four unconventional wars against terrorists groups. These are 2002's Operation Defensive Shield against the PLO, the failed Hezbollah War of 2006, Operation Cast Lead against Hamas in 2008 and Operation Protective Edge in 2014, also against Hamas.
During this time the Israelis have become experts in urban fighting and have developed unique technologies to counter the threat of terror tunnels and missiles.
The next war awaits. An existential conflict pitting Israel against Hezbollah, Syria and Iran.
