Monday Metal

Via the OC Register, the hard truth about Rock n Roll:
Guitar Center, the nation’s leading musical-instrument retailer, is in trouble. Changing musical tastes are partly to blame.

Ratings agency S&P Global downgraded Westlake Village-based Guitar Center Holdings Inc. for the second time last week as the troubled instrument retailer seeks to refinance and restructure more than $1 billion of debt.

“Most of what’s really selling today is rap and hip hop,” said George Gruhn, owner of the Gruhn Guitars shop in Nashville. “That’s outpacing other forms of music and they don’t use a lot of recognizable musical instruments.”

Of course most rap and hip hop is not music at all, while those who want a fun, pop sound have migrated to Country. Even modern Country music has nothing to do with searing guitar riffs.

There's a Guitar Center down the road from us, and usually old guys with grey ponytails and fading tattoos are behind the counter. The youngest player in It's Gonna Get Loud is our age.

If we were to put together a list of the greatest rock bands ever, not one would come after the 70s. Maybe Nirvana and that's a stretch. We're talkin' Beatles, Beach Boys, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Queen...

Let's get back to Nirvana.

While Jazz...

[We just threw up a little-Ed]

Yeah, I know....while Jazz is dedicated to keeping things the same, Rock & Roll has to innovate. Grunge seems to be the last great innovation, which was dead, literally by 1995. Did Grunge kill Rock & Roll or are there just so many things one can do with a guitar?

Reader(s) are invited to weigh in below.

This band really make it big as the house band for Phineas and Pherb
