Wither Belief

Catholic convert Damon Linker writes what must be for him and excruciating piece on titled The Unbearable Ugliness of the Catholic Church.

Of course we here at William Stroock are Jewish and don't really feel comfortable weighing in on another person's religion or religious beliefs. We doubt this scandal is limited to the Church. In fact we recall a massive local scandal involving a prominent Hasidic rabbi's sexual abuse of women; though this was more of the Harvey Weinstein variety.

For complex reasons we were raised a secular Jew, as Andrew Breitbart (PBUH) used to call himself, and did not so much as set foot in a synagogue until we met this nice Jewish girl at college.* We tried being a religious Jew, but it didn't take. With one or two exceptions  we've never felt anything in the pews and after the mid-Seder meal all we can think is, 'God I need to get started on these dishes.'
For that reason we were drawn to this paragraph:
My belief has faded further over the intervening years, as I've tried to keep some spark of it alive long enough to give my children the Catholic education that from the moment of my conversion I was obligated to provide them. I fulfilled that duty...
As have we.

*Today she takes our children to Hebrew school on Sundays.
