Another aesthetic triumph for Game of Thrones. The Second Battle of King's Landing was a nightmare, and we lived the nightmare of the million souls trapped it in the city. The writers and creative directors seemingly channeled Slaughter House Five to brilliant effect.
The episode was an orgy of gruesome slaughter, the slaughter of the guilty and the innocent, randomly, wantonly, with pleasure, to no end and no point.
The Battle of Winterfell left the characters naked with nothing to hide. Here they are revealed for the savages they and we really are. Any one of us could have joined in.
The Queen is mad. What shall the King do?
