8-20-19 in New Jersey

Well yeah:
A new Big 7 Travel survey ranks New Jersey 46th when it comes to friendliness, just four spots higher than neighbor New York, which ranks dead last. Delaware, our neighbor to the south, is ranked 48th — maybe it’s just a Mid-Atlantic thing.
New Jersey has a horrible reputation. When Tony Soprano or Joe Pesci is your most famous New Jerseyian one understands why.

It's true, people in New Jersey are gruff strait talkers and come off as unfriendly. Think Chris Christie - whom we loved.

Why, when we were looking at houses in New Jersey in 2001, Mrs. Stroock, a Delawarean, was very off-put by our New Jersey cliché of a real estate agent. We were less so, as we grew up (in NY State) with the type. He was like what you're thinking right now.

The author is right, the rough demeanor is a function of the Northeast and not limited to New Jersey. It comes naturally. In 1995 when we backed up into a car, a bystander asked,'Why didn't you wait?' We pointed and shouted, 'Why don't you shut the fuck up?!'
