Touring Neolithic tombs in Ireland put us in mind of things ancient.
This got us to thinking about ancient battles that could use a movie treatment.
Our first thought was Cannae wrapped around a general biopic of Hannibal.
Our second thought was Teutoburgerwald in 14 AD where the krauts annihilated three Roman legions. This would be like Islandwana but with Romans. 'Varus! Give me back my legions!' Shouted Augustus.
After seeing Horrible Histories: Rotten Romans with the kids last week, we like the idea of a movie about the rising and defeat of Boudica, ancient Celtic warrior princess.
What other ancient battles deserve a film?

ReplyDeleteMasada - never be touched in today's political climate.
Battle of Tours - same problem.
Alexander the Great - Siege of Tyre - especially if done from the perspective of one of the engineers.
How the remnants of the "Lost Legion" likely wound up in Western China could be a whole HBO series.
ReplyDeleteBetter movie about Troy would be nice anything between Saladin and Richard the 3
