Home Schooling: The Final Report

Yesterday, June 23rd, 2020 was the last day of school, the last day of three plus months of home schooling.

The home schooling went better than we had a right to expect. We had two tasks, make sure the girls learned something, and make sure the entire day wasn't wasted on YouTube. Mission accomplished on both fronts.

Middle Daughter needed a little light supervision and the teenager was more or less on her own. Our greatest concern was Youngest Daughter.

The school day began at 8:45. Usually, teachers sent four or five assignments. These would take maybe two hours. To this we added reading for 15 minutes and music. We've been teaching Youngest Daughter to play the guitar. A couple of times a week in late morning we'd watch a documentary about animals or space, or something. Youngest Daughter really got into Easter Island and drew a lot of Moai.  We undid Common Core, which readers will understand is the Mark of the Beast; 'Carry the one, Goddamn it!' We taught division and multiplication. After a few weeks the teachers added daily zoom meetings. These really helped keep the girls busy and took a bit of the pressure off us.

After lunch they could more or less do what they wanted.

Report cards are already in and everyone did just fine.
