Ok, fought Saddam's War.
The Iraqi Republican Guard advanced into Khuzestan on a two pronged front and easily defeated subpar Iranian armored forces. There began the siege of Abadan.
While Iran had a considerably larger army, these were all low quality infantry divisions, some of which had loyalty problems.
Saddam's agents were also able to foment revolt in some border cities with large Arab populations. These added to Iranian difficulties. Though the Iranians did retake these, doing so hampered their efforts to counterattack in the northern and central fronts.
By the time Iranian divisions arrived in the north to help the Kurds, Iraq had taken control of Khuzestan. The war took about four weeks. At the end of that time Iraqi logistics were exhausted but they were firmly entrenched in Khuzestan, soon to be known as province 20.
