What Will's Watching: Yellowstone, Season 1

Good god, why did we wait so long to watch Yellowstone?

From the writer of Sicario and Hell or High Water. Good lord.

Kevin Costner gives the performance of a lifetime as John Dutton, patriarch of the Rhode Island sized Yellowstone Ranch. He is cruel and unkind - to his own children, to whom he wants to leave the Dutton legacy. Nothing else matters, not even his relationship with his sons and daughter, who are themselves a mass of neurosis and contradictions.

Son Jamie is the ranch attorney, a politically ambitious pretty boy in a cowboy hat. Is he gay, we asked ourselves over and over again. We're still not sure.  Beth (played by the lovely and talented Kelly Reilly) is a cutthroat financier who derives an almost sexual satisfaction in defeating her father's enemies, who are everywhere. Kaycee is the youngest and already lost.

Gil Hamilton plays Chief Thomas Rainwater, a driven man who had ambitions for himself and his people, but looks about and feels only disappointment. He is John Dutton's enemy, but not the only one. The Dutton Ranch is surrounded by enemies. 4/4
