Will's Good Idea for the Week of 11-15-20

Hibachi night was postponed as we were invited to an emergency Diwali party. Man, there were fireworks going off all over the neighborhood last night.

As we said, the Beijing Blight is making its way through Bridgewater, someone at our gym got it. Baaaa....we can't go anyway.

So we outlined the first chapter of World War 1990: Saddam's War. This will show an Iraqi corps commander inspecting his LOC, an Iraqi division commander going over deployments, and the head of Mossad's Iraq Desk looking at SIGINT, HUMINT and sat photos and getting an ominous feeling. He'll call some friends at Centcom.

Chapter Two will describe the situation in the Middle East. We'll probably tour some Arab capitals showing Arab leaders in various states of distress and resignation.

As we do in the other WW1990 novels we'll use a mixture of real and created characters. We think our Iraqi division commander is a Christian and an Arab nationalist. The corps commander will be a real person, we have a few names and a few books coming in the mail.

We're bringing back Tevelev, our high ranking Soviet defector. He works for Mossad now. Why not?

There will be a furious row in Washington over intervention, but on whose behalf? US forces will deploy, but will they go into action? You people would like that, wouldn't you? Remember, Saddam already invaded Kuwait and the US could do nothing about it. Kuwait is now Province 19.

We're thinking this novel takes place in the summer of 1991, so we might be able to start the political intrigue and lay the groundwork for Election 92. Quayle is the GOP frontrunner and the establishment is desperate to stop him. We can show some Dem maneuvering too.

This will be the first opportunity readers have to see what's going on in the post war US.

Oh yes, we have the ju-ju.

  1. I think we would help Iraq rather have Sadam in charge instead of the mullahs of Iran

  2. For the Election '92 novel, is Bush going to decide to not run for a second term?

On the Democratic side, I know you've mentioned using Al Gore as the nominee. I think Paul Tsongas could be an interesting alternative option.
