At no time did we think Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would beat the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay is a tough place to win. Even so The Pack didn't look that sharp, and only three interceptions by Mr. Brady kept them in the game. We're glad the Tampa won. We've never had a problem with Mr. Brady and in fact have admired him and his former coach Bill Belichick greatly. Belichick was the defensive coordinator on our beloved Super Bowl XXI and XXV champion New York Giants, and we've always pulled for him. The sports press has spent all season leg humping Packer's quarterback Aaron Rodgers and we were sick of hearing how great he is. Thank you, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for sparing us two more weeks of that.
The game was called by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Aikman would be a much better announcer if he could stop complementing everyone all the time for everything. The man says 'good job' with Tourette's like frequency. Where's Howard Cosell if when you need him. The man used rail against the 'jockocracy' that spent the game doing what Aikman does.
Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs took care of business as this blog assumed they would. Mrs. Stroock is a Delaware girl, and that's Eagles country whom Reid coached for a decade. Congrats to him. We expect to be saying congratulations to him again in a few weeks.
After our post yesterday about the New York Giants violating the Minnesota Vikings 41-0 in the 2000 NFC Champhionship Game, a member of this blog's Texas delegation pointed out that the Baltimore Ravens then annihilated the Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV. And it wasn't that close. Thanks, Carmichael. The reaming never bugged us. The Baltimore Ravens had the second greatest defense we've ever seen, and walloped the Giants fair and square.
Predictions? Well the smart money is on the Chiefs, but Brady and the Bucs have won three straight road playoff games and found a way to beat the Pack and home. Were Tom Brady to win, he'd be the first quarterback to win the Super Bowl with two different teams. That would be kind of cool. We've always admired greatness.
