Via Vox Day, Boomer David Hamilton laments that his generation is dying and his music is dying with it:
It's one of the reasons that I have signed up to present a show on a new station, Boom Radio, which will play music from the Sixties and Seventies and later, including new music. As its name suggests, it's aimed at baby boomers — although I like to think it will attract fans of all ages.
Narrator: No, it won't. The only question is which will die faster, David Hamilton's audience? Or David Hamilton?
Hamilton actually begins a sentence, 'Back in the 60's...' That's like someone talking to an 18 year old in 1960 about 1900. Oh does he ever go on telling us how IMPORTANT the Stones and Beatles were. Hamilton has the temerity to call Boomer rock the greatest music ever made. As Vox Day asked, ever hear of Beethoven? They still play him. You won't be able to say that about the Mama's and the Papa's in another generation.
Think back to the most popular genres of the past. Who listens to TR era Marching Music anymore, or Tin Pan Alley. Hell, we're not even sure what that is. You know what people are going to remember about post-war 20th century music? Sinatra, Elvis and Michael Jackson and that's about it.
Here's the Boomer, letting us know how important he and his music are one last time:
Powerful and energetic, these new songs had exploded on to the music scene to become the anthems for our changing times...This was the dawn of two decades which would usher in some of the greatest music ever made and the greatest lyrics ever penned — written and performed by bands and solo artists whose names are now etched in the music hall of fame. [snip] Their timeless lyrics and memorable melodies retain their potency to this day.
Which is to say, 'Love, love me do. You know, I love you.'
Mock this Boomer. Laugh at him. Hurt his feelings. Make him wonder what it's all been about. If you can't laugh at Hamilton's self-obliviousness, then you're an inhuman monster.
*We seriously considered titling this post Die, Boomer, Die.
