Monday Various and Rock me Osmonds

Got on the scale yesterday, no weight gain despite two weeks away. Got to the gym and did the machines, no problemo. We have some residual soreness in our foot from a gout attack and it feels like it's going to last a while. Best thing to do is put on an 80's training montage and power on through. 

The Times of Israel reports that Israel and Poland are in a spat over Poland's new property law which puts a 30 year cap on Holocaust restitution claims. Quite right. Thirty years makes it a century since the Red Army rolled into Auschwitz. How much longer does this go on?  Enough. 

What Will's Watching: USA Basketball lost to France. That's just embarrassing. The Dream Team would have committed mass ritual suicide. That's why they were the Dream Team and these guys aren't. The girls really like gymnastics and now Youngest Daughter wants to take gymnastics classes. We always get nervous when one of the girls says something like that. We don't want that kind of life for them. Heck, we're a little nervous that Oldest Daughter is trying out for a competitive dance team. It will be fine.

It has been suggested we write a USA breakup novel. Na, not our milieu. Kurt Schlichter has written a bunch though. Others have taken a whack at it. We were actually interviewed by an outfit that wants California to secede. We don't see it happening. Don't take a trend and extrapolate it too it's conclusion. That's bad sci fi.

Admit it, this is kinda cool. Certainly fun. The Osmonds sell the fun aspect of this to the point of hamming things up. But it works. We wish we could have that much fun doing something. Even mentioning Crazy Horses or the Osmonds would have gotten your ass kicked in 1988, but there's a certain genuineness to this era. These kids aren't joking, this is what they think is cool. Do you really think the Hair Metal bands felt the same? We like the bass player's interlude, and that's a tight little guitar solo. Feels like a kiss song, no? Laugh all you want, but they got lots of girls and you didn't.
