We are in Dover, Delaware for our father-in-law's funeral. The service went just fine and Mrs. Stroock read out the family's thankyous with strength as we knew she would. Mrs. Stroock has been the family matriarch since the death of her mother 20 years ago this May. Our oldest is named for the woman.
Being back in Dover, it hasn't been that long really, but being back in Dover puts us in mind of the past. It was 30 years ago about now that we first came to Dover to look at Wesley College. This is where we went to school and fell in love with a 17 year old girl who would go on to give good eulogies.
We've found ourselves thinking about the spring of 1994, almost like a movie. The vision fades, a radio hit from those days plays (Stay, by Lisa Loeb maybe) and there we are in Carpenter Hall, or in our 86 Toyota Celica GT with that girl next to us. We find ourselves wondering just how much of that time we actually remember. Or do we just remember vignettes and images? Maybe we'll go into it a bit more in further posts.
We're getting a bit emotional. Understandable.
