The Thursday Downer

We had an appointment with our doctor this week in which we both concluded that the current med regimen is doing fine. We're on one pill that's supposed to take the edge off the hormones, and another that does the same and also knocks one out at night. Which is nice. Where once we might have said, 'Shut the fuck up,' now we say, 'Please be quiet' but tensely. We no longer take a dedicated anti-depressant.

Mood enhancers and anti-depressants have to be carefully used. Doctors are not always careful. Ours kept pushing drugs on us. Yes, pushing is the right word. We waved our hands and said, enough. If two pills failed three is not the answer. That said, there is no doubt anti-depressants work. We know personally. What we're saying is, don't take the doc's word for it. Take control. The information is out there and easy to find. And don't be afraid to just say no.

With the death of our father-in-law we've taken stock of ourselves; thought of where we could improve as a husband, father and man. One can always improve. But we've always believed that if one is questioning, one is probably okay. To ask if one is worthy makes one worthy - to a point.

We'll say this. Since our professorial career implosion in 2015 we've been in our own world. The obvious reason is the massive reduction in human contact. When we walked off the RVCC campus for the last time, we told ourselves we'd write more, and we have. A lot more. We truly have become the introverted flake who can't keep time and dates straight and asks what time to pick up the girls from dance at least twice. Writing is all we think about. We'll put it this way. When our father-in-law was being lowered into the ground, we had to push out of our head thoughts of Putin's War.

Speaking of downers....

What Will's watching, The Book of Boba Fett, Chapter-7. We fell asleep, woke up, and could barely stay away for this hourlong, bloated suck-fest. The season finale, like the rest of the season, was unfocused and all over the place. The episode was one long street battle in which the writer (John Favreau) struggled mightily to get all the characters and factions to the same place. The good guys fought the first thing, followed by the next thing and then the thing after that, and so on. We cared not a whit about the characters. In short, the finale sucked, like the rest of The Book of Boba Fett. 0/4

So we went back an restarted The Expanse. Here's the Critical Drinker's review. Remember, the Drinker is always right:
