The Thursday Downer

Via Instapundit, Juliette Ochieng has a writer's problem: 'My intent was to offer content more often -and it still is - but it seems I’m having the anxiety attack from Hell - literally, in my opinion. Stage fright? Yes, after 20 years of writing online it happens and it’s a vicious circle. The more I think about writing, the more anxious I get. And the longer I wait before choosing a topic, the more anxious I get! So, screw it. Here I am telling you about it.'

I don't get anxiety, or maybe I do. I dunno. But I do feel a nag. A chronic pull to get to the computer and get on with things. It's annoying. It's also motivation. As I write this, I'm wrapping up an article that bugs me until I sit down, write and edit a few hundred words. I'm thinking about that article right now. As a matter of fact, I'm worrying about whether or not the article needs a sequel this very moment. If so, good. But that also means more nag.

They make pills for anxiety. We got a drawer full of 'em. As we've stated before, time and again, we could stuff a family in a meat freezer, pop a few of these as needed anti-anxiety pills, and be completely okay with it. These pills should be illegal. Did you know they're working on a pill to combat grief? What the what? Do shame and remorse next.

We were on three meds, we dropped down to one med when the doctor tried to upgrade us to four, count 'em, four meds. Where three meds fail, four is not the answer. We're down to one med. We call it a quaalude, but we don't know what it is. We take the quaalude because it knocks us out at night. lately we've been waking up anyway. Follow the logic. IF the pill does not knock us out, THEN we should not take the pill. Our logic is unassailable.

Sometimes we wonder if a glass of whisky will do the same thing that RXs do. We were 100 % clean during the spring of 2021. At this point we are convinced the best therapy we can do is an hour of cardio and strength training at the gym. Some of the worst moments of our life came hopped up on all kinds of meds. Maybe we should go clean again.

Oh look: 'Antidepressants are the mainstay for treating depression, but their use is clouded by questions about lasting efficacy. A new study now suggests antidepressants may not improve people's quality of life in the long run, compared to depressed people who don't take this type of medication.' Yes, sometimes being as right as we are is a burden. Bastards. For those who don't know, pay very close attention when the commercials and the docs talk about side effects. They're not messing around. In our experience shrinks will fall into the same trap as other doctors, of focusing on the problem without considering the tradeoffs.

Commercial Break, sad little fuzzball. Who else remembers this one? It's about right.
