The Thursday Downer et al

Good Thursday afternoon, Stroock's Books commune.

This is your last chance to send me ideas for The New American Order: 1977-1981...and Beyond.

We are at the location of our former morning coffeeshop, which was sold to a New Jersey franchise last year. We'll never forgive the owners. We've dined here twice since it opened and come away unimpressed on both occasions. This is our first morning coffee/writing session. Many a novel have we researched, written and edited at this locale.  Our novels used to line the windowsill.

The coffee is....okay, better than Starbucks. As we write this a gaggle of moms in tights and sweatshirts is chit chatting away. This ain't a library, and the ambient noise is kinda pleasant. Foot traffic seems normal.

Still, it is not the same.

Which is just a splendid way to kick off the Thursday Downer.

Bill Whittle reports that the nation is out of Adderall. We've followed Whittle's work on depression and meds and were surprised to learn he's on Adderall. Anyway, Whittle describes how the nation ran out, and describes going clean. It wasn't pretty.  He and his panelists ask the obvious and terrifying question, what happens if the nation runs out of insulin?

We've been experimenting with going clean ourselves. We're on 25mgs of one drug, taken to knock us out at night. We've been gradually reducing our intake. But after a while we think, why not? What's the big deal? We did 25mgs last night and was light's out till 6:15 AM, which was nice. Why not indeed?

Holy cow! California has lost half a million people since 2020. The Exodus continues. California, you asked for this. California, you voted for this. And California, you deserve this. Dream of Californication...

Commercial Break. Thirty years ago, Cystal Clear Pepsi. I liked Diet Pepsi, I liked the idea of Diet Pepsi being clear, I liked Van Halen, I liked this album, and I liked this song. And I remember hearing about Crystal Clear Pepsi in 1992 and thinking, I'll be in college. So there:
