Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!

RIP Jerry Springer. So one day in the late 90's our then fiancĂ©e calls us up and says, 'I think you know this guy on Springer.'

And so we did. We went to college with NAME WITHELD and are FB friends. Don't worry, he posted the screen cap on FB. We had mutual acquaintances and took some classes together. He's doing fine, by the way.

So yesterday the best man at our wedding asked if we could move a conversation to another ap. We said sure. He asked for our phone number, at which point we became suspicious. We challenged him to finish a sentence from our formative years that no one else would know. Challenged accepted and met.  For 20 minutes we laughed about dredging up of that bit of 80's era teenage nomenclature and idiocy.

Also yesterday we did an interview with the Footsteps of the Fallen Podcast about our man, General John J. Pershing. Podcast proprietor Matt Dixon says the interview should be up Sunday. We had a great time. The interview almost felt like our professorial days. We'd forgotten how tiring all that talking can be.

Segue....maybe we should do summer sneak in stuff on Pershing and the AEF? Recall we have an unfinished Pershing alternate history novel, and half a dozen unpublished AEF magazine articles that we meant to put into a compilation. We last worked on them in 2019. Maybe? We'd have to go digging through two dozen bankers boxes to find our AEF books. [Oh come on. What would that take, an hour? -Ed] If that. [Slacker-Ed].

Over at Jacobin, of all places, a great article about Barry Soetoro's post- presidential obnoxiousness. Author Liza Featherstone makes a point we've often made. Other ex-presidents just go away. About W. she writes, 'George W. Bush has kept a tactfully low profile, becoming an amateur painter.' Quite right. And we'll fight any man who says Jimmy Carter hasn't done fine works out of office. The naming of a submarine after the man is well deserved.

Tucker made a brief statement last night. Looks like he'll be back in some form. Which is fine. We didn't watch his show...much. We always found his extended interviews and speeches he made far more fascinating. Here's an old clip of Tucker fishing. We saw this, I dunno, a decade ago. The clip was fascinating back then. The clip is fascinating now. We judge these people by asking, 'Would we have a drink with them?' Tucker would talk about fishing, or carpentry or his sauna, anything but politics. Loves his job, hates his subject.

Well of course Fox's 8 PM time slot ratings have collapsed. We'll see what the suits do to bring them back up. Were we running Fox News we'd axe Hannity (discount Rush) and Ingraham, do a 10 PM interview show Larry King style and hire Sarah Palin to host a daytime talk show for the gals.
