Tuesday's a Hoot

Once again we approach a morning blog post like...meh. What is this, blogger menopause? We're also tempted to delete our Twitter and Gab accounts. What's the point?

We're trying to talk even less about politics and culture here at Stroock's Books. Also, what's the point? We see no reason for optimism, hope. Only despair. We're like Sir Percival wandering the land in search of the Holy Grail. The last three years have radicalized us. Sheer politeness keeps is from writing what we want to write. And Mrs. Stroock is a corporate suit. 'Your lunatic husband said what?' is not something she needs to hear. Also, the censorship regime. Are we censoring ourselves? You're goddamn right we are.

[Well, aren't you in a good mood this morning, luv-Ed]

We're back in New Jersey, tired but rested, and sore from all that kayaking and other assorted boat crap. We definitely got in a pair of solid workouts up there, so good back-to-back days at the lake. As we had no snow days this year, the girls are off from school till Thursday.

What Will's Watching: Airport (1970). This is the granddaddy of 70's era disaster movies. My, has the world changed. For the better, for the worse. We're only about a third of the way through the movie. So far Airport is about competent professionals doing their jobs. These men (and women) have an air of quiet confidence about them that we envy. We admit to having trouble believing Dean Martin is a serious and sober airline pilot. We are entertained.

Memorial Day war movie thoughts...The cable channels have been running these marathons since the early 90s's. Sometimes they'll show some old war movies we've never scene. Sometimes they show the classics. Sometimes they show the cliches. Sorry, but we don't need to see the Frank Sinatra vehicle, None but the Brave. We decided this weekend that we like  war movies that show us something, tell us something. Showing us what it was like. We caught part of The Red Badge of Courage the other day. Wow. What other movies do this? That's what they should show on Memorial Day.

This week we'll be reading through the second half of World War 1990: The Final Storm. It's not quite June yet, but will June be the month?

On the World War 1990: Norway front, we'll also be finishing up the Battle of Banak chapter and laying the groundwork for the next chapter, the assault on Tromso and the Froy line command bunker. The Soviet's piercing the Froy line will bring about a crisis.

Sales are up these last few days for no reason we can discern. Memorial Day Weekend? We dunno.

Monday (not) Metal on Tuesday. A forgotten 80's mystery click, as Ace would say. The Hooters were pretty big in the mid-80's and defiantly not one hit wonders. This is peek 80s video making. At least where we came from, going to the drive-in theatre was a retro 60's thing. This is a fun song with a fun video. Very 80's but not in a bad way.  The hair's a bit big, but whatev. Overall, just perfect.

Sorry too late for that now mate. That crazy cruise ship sailed port a long time ago, is out in the deep end of the ocean, and will never see dry land again. And that mate, is the candy coated version, with cherries and a pork pie on top.
