Achy and Breaky on a Monday

We are tired and sore once again, and now we're starting to get seriously fucked off about it.

The longer the Haredi parties remain in power in Israel, the less we like them. Jerks.

Remaining on the Jewish track, Israel Radar has a long thread about Iranian plans to bombard Jerusalem. They'd target holy sites, tourist attractions, the Knesset, the PM's residence, etc etc. 'Attacking Jerusalem will also signal that Iran is challenging Israel's sovereignty in the capital. Targeting the city will likely galvanize support from Arabs and Muslims worldwide for the Iran axis war effort.'

What Will's Watching: True Grit (John Wayne version). This movie sucks. A bad, predictable plot and zero chemistry between John Wayne, Kim Darby*, and Glenn Campbell. The scenery is beautiful, we'll give the film that. Rooster Cogburn is better. 1/4

Vox Day quotes Sarah Hoyt about the problem and why of writing and says something very interesting, 'My solution – and I am not recommending it, merely sharing my perspective – is to simply refuse to regard my activity as economic in nature. I’m not bearing down this week in order to finish the 297,500-word final edition of A SEA OF SKULLS this month because some people might buy it or because it might generate some revenue or because it will make a pretty pair of leather books or because some people might be impressed with me as a writer. I literally don’t think about those things at all, and I think that if I did, it would hinder my ability to write. I’m doing it because I want to do it. I’m continuing the story because the story continues in my head and it isn’t finished yet.'

Of course, we think about selling books all the time, and there are projects we haven't taken up because we don't think there's a market for them. But still, our main motivation is, 'We have this story in our head, lets write it down.' How many times have we written here about the spark of creation, that idea that gets in one's head? 'Well, that's a pretty good idea?'

We'll take up another one of Vox Day's points tomorrow, because we think it's interesting. In other words it's Why Will Writes Week here at Stroock's Books.

Monday not Metal. By now you've all heard Oliver Anthony's Rich Men North of Richmond. He's going to be a rich man himself. The song is truly heart wrenching. We're writing about Oliver Anthony because we're curious about something. For six years we lived in Arlington just across the river from DC. Locals referred to this cluster of four counties as Northern Virginia or NOVA. In all that time we almost never encountered people with southern accents. Everyone spoke the same American Standard English as us. If one went down I-95 to Dale City, where the mile long megamall known as Potomac Mills was (and is), you'd run into folks coming up north to shop. We never set foot in Richmond and never went anywhere near the capitol. We bet the DC suburbs extend all the way to the Richmond suburbs now.

We have read through the first two chapters of World War 1990: Norway, these being the setup and Battle of Banak. We are quite pleased. We're adding scenes to the set up and laying the groundwork for some French pilots. As it happens, one of them actually flew with Argentines, you know, back in '82.'

*Oh my god, Kim Darby is also the mom in Better off Dead.
