Good and Hard, America

We took the girls across the mighty Hudson River to visit their grandfather yesterday. A pleasant enough visit, and the ghosts weren't too bad. There and back again is a 3 + hour trip and we're fifty. We're dragging this morning and that groin pull is nagging. We had hoped to hit the gym a few times before going down the shore. But at this point the priority is to get everything healed by Saturday. It's fine, we get a tonne of exercise at the beach.

Our dad's been in that house since December, 1979. We remember moving day. We've always had memory like that. On the ride back home yesterday we were thinking...[Were you?-Ed]. Yes. Yes we were. We've been in our current local for 18 years. The mortgage will be paid off this November.  Not bad for buying at the very peak of the market.* Do we really want to stay here another 18 years? At the moment, no. No, we don't.

The New York Yankees have lost eight in a row. Eight in a row. They're 60-64 and utterly collapsing. It's been 30 + years now since they finished below 500, 1992. We were 19. No Yankees fan under 35 remembers a bad Yankees team. But when we started getting into baseball in 1987, that's when they began falling apart. The Yankees are bad, and their best player is aging and can't stay healthy. Truly these are the end of times.

We agree with everything in this Mark Steyn column, The Voters vs the Party. The Republican Party and its leadership are useless. We had an infuriating conversation with a nice, respectable Paul Ryan type GOP the other day, who can't get past Trump being a big meanie who sends mean tweets. But Tahoe Joe is better? The GOPe people would rather have lost in 2016 with Jeb! than have won with Trump.

Steyn's logic at the end of his column is unassailable, '1) Everyone says, if you nominate Trump, he'll lose in the general; 2) But that only matters if the general is on the up-and-up; 3) And, if it isn't, you might as well take a stand with Trump rather than losing with Nikki Haley.' If the Dems have rigged our elections [If?-Ed] and this blog believes they have, then there is no other choice. Screw the GOP. The party deserves destruction. No, it's not a matter of winning with Haley or losing with Trump. You ain't gonna win with Haley. Whatever the electoral circumstances next year the GOP and Trump will fuck it up. That is, they won't find a way to stop the steal.

You know, we came from that nice respectable wing of the GOP. The post-Reagan 90's GOP that wanted to reform government, balance the budget, and pay off the debt. When we started this blog in 2015 we were a Rubio guy. The Clintons said we wanted to starve children and throw old people into the street (Rush Limbaugh reference). You believed them, America. As if Republicans didn't care about children and the elderly. You deserve everything that's coming America. All of it, especially Joe vs. Trump.

*A bank wanted to give us a million bucks. This wasn't some fly by night e-mortgage operation. This was a bank, with FDIC membership, registered officers, and everything. 'You qualify for a million dollars,' said the Hungarian accented women with the gaudy jewelry and big hair. 'And we would eat what?' we replied. Again, and we can't stress this enough, we were at a bank.
