Friday Updates

Family arrived safely in Indiana last night...it's so quiet here. Weird. We had an Arturo Fuente and a bottle of chianti last night. We'll do so again tonight.

We know what victory in Gaza smells like. Victory smells like napalm. But what does victory in Gaza look like? We are less concerned with capturing and killing Hamas' leadership than we are with destroying Hamas' infrastructure and making an abject slaughter of Hamas' rank and file. Moreover, the Gazan must see defeat, and so he has in the rubble, in the vids of naked Hamas fighters in captivity.

And after? Some say Israel must reoccupy Gaza. Some idiot from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, or some such, is dusting off his counterinsurgency manual from 2006 and thinking, the answers are all in here. No. Some say the Israelis should turn Gaza over to the UN or the EU, or something. Whatever. Stroock's Books asks, why not just leave a smoldering ruin and walk away? [You have all the solutions, then?-Ed] We don't.

What Will's Watching: We started Rebel Moon last night after the Rams took a commanding lead over the Saints. We're about a third of the way through the film. Rebel Moon is predictable, the beats are all there. Kora, the protagonist is a Mary Sue, but at least she has backstory to establish the character. Allegedly Rebel Moon was originally pitched as a Star Wars movie. We can see that. Chris Gore at Film Threat says Rebel Moon reminds him of Battle Beyond the Stars et al. Yep. The influences are all there, are the influences ever there. [Were you not entertained?-Ed] We were, so far.

The things.

We made slow but steady progress with War Night. Cathy is going to pick up the twins despite mushroom clouds over Orlando and Tampa, no matter what. This story is turning into an exposition of mid 70s culture. We've referenced 70's TV shows and a station wagon, so far.

The World War 1990: Norway read through is progressing just fine. We're doing a chapter a day. While reading we write down a few questions we have and then set about answering those questions. We've made a bit of intellectual on the epilogue chapter. We're no longer staring into the abyss.

Word War 1990: The Final Storm will be available sometime this weekend.

  1. Read the first chapter on Amazon's look inside. Good job tying the NATO leaders meeting with the other books. When is the paperback coming out? Looks like a good read
