Snowy and Jewy on a Friday

Word spread quickly through the house. First a low rumble, slowly gaining momentum, then a cacophony [He pronounces that Caca-phony-Ed]. Snow Day! We're not actually getting much snow*, but the timing is bad and could really screw up bus transport. A good chunk of the district is in the hills.

A few notes on Israel. The war seems to be slowing, though the IDF has made much progress. Legal Insurrection has a good summary of events this week. There's heavy fighting in Kahn Yunis. Rafah looms. It's close to the Egyptian Border and that presents special problems. At home there's much understandable wailing about the hostages. Pressure on Netanyahu's government grows. We all know Bibi can't win an election, but can he hold his government together long enough to win the war? War drums bang louder in the north. This is gonna be a long, long war.

What Will's Watching: Mann v Steyn: We watched opening arguments yesterday of the Mann vs Steyn defamation trial. We noticed Powerline's John Hinderaker (a lawyer) was among the viewers. Read his summary linked above. We got a look at the jury as they walked in front of the camera and into the box. We didn't spot any AWFULs, so that's a good sign. Mann's lawyer seems like an unpleasant individual. Steyn was in form, said things we've heard many times before, and said them well. We're not sure how his schtick plays with a jury though. In the end, the jurors may simply follow regime instructions.

What Will's Also Watching: True Detective, Season 4, Episode 1. We had high hopes for the new season, as Jody Foster stars. But there's also an SBW character, and when we see one in a show (Star Wars: Kenobi for example) we take her presence as a warning. We would have been wise to heed this warning. So far, meh. Too many characters doing too many things making for too many plot lines. We don't think we'll make it to the second episode. So we switched to the well watched True Detective Season 1** where Woody Harelson and Mathew McConaughey play two complex and deeply flawed men nearly devoured by atmosphere. My word, the opening credit sequence sets the scene and tells the viewer that something very evil is happening.

* 2-4 inches. In Canada they call this summer. As we write this snow flurries are whirling around, nothing more.

**Season 2 was ridiculous and we stopped watching halfway through. Season 3 was a return to form. While not up to season 1, season 3 was good, very good. Another show about two detectives with a complex relationship between themselves and with the women in their lives. This time in Arkansas.
