Will's Good Idea for the Week of 1/14/24

It's a cold Sunday morning here in Northern New Jersey.

We did a five mile walk yesterday and are toying with the idea of hitting the gym today. The shoulder feels ok, and the dance-taxi schedule doesn't permit us to workout on Monday and Tuesdays.

We were bored with the one NFL game we were able to watch yesterday, Cleveland at Houston, and didn't plunk down $5.99 a month to watch Taylor Swift's boyfriend's team on Peacock. Screw the NFL. We wish we could say the NFL will suffer for this bit of frivolous streaming greed, but the league is making more money than ever.

Israel has been at war for 100 days. In that time the nation has suffered more than 1700 dead and 2500 wounded. The war has spread to Lebanon, and Yemen, where the US and NATO try to contain the Houthis. Israel has intensified its operations in Syria. Hamas allies have overrun the streets of Western cities (last night they tried to storm the White House). Hundreds if not thousands of their supporters have lost jobs or been publicly shamed. South Africa is waging lawfare against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Netanyahu's coalition frays. Israel will be at war for a hundred days more. Exit question: what will the next hundred days bring? Post in comments.

The great John Nolte, you should really buy his book, tweeted the following, 'My main takeaway from Nikki Haley is that she’s not as smart as I thought she was. As far as DeSantis, he is over his head and unable to right the ship of a truly awful establishment campaign team. Vivek has a future. Christie is fat. Trump is outfoxing everyone.' It's hard to disagree with any of that. What if Trump is actually running a brilliant campaign? What if 2024 is going to be 2016 all over again, whereby Trump outmaneuvers the establishment? Maybe. We'll know more on Monday night. This blog urges Iowans to vote for Ron DeSantis.

World War 1990: The Final Storm, got its first 1 star rating. Which is fine. The periodic bad rating lends credibility to the good ratings.

Moving on to Will's Good Idea for the Week of 1/14/24....we had thought our Alberta rancher would go to town where things would be normal, but the normal idea works better for a town in the United States. Remember, Canada doesn't get hit too hard. Damn it. It's okay, we've made some progress on the story.

It's hard to describe what we're getting at with the normal after nuke concept. The bombs fall, the missiles fly. But the local power company keeps the lights on. The water and sewars function.  After a few weeks or a month, in a few places the stores and schools open, and people get back to life.

We're toying with the idea of running some ads for the nuke series, as sales have settled into backlist territory. Why not try to give them a boost? Maybe in a magazine [Ok, Boomer-Ed], maybe online. We know people who have had success with advertising on Amazon. That's always seemed to us like buying from the company store. Maybe do ads on Gab? It's important to challenge our ideas a few times a year, to fight complacency. We shall proceed with caution.
