Research Ireland and Discover a Guitarist

By lunch time yesterday we were 100 percent recovered from our bout of food poisoning. We hit the gym at 4 PM. On a hunch we got on the scale, and sure enough, we were 240 lbs. Obviously, since we were, shall we say, purged. But still, this was nice to see. There followed an hour of stretching, calisthenics and resistance exercises. Cardio today.

Anyone who thinks Trump's a lock should see France's election results. Steyn has the analyses and he's as gloomy as ever. Breitbart argues yesterday's election may set the stage for an RN victory in 2027. RN did win the most votes, after all. But the alliance of various socialists and communists won the most seats. France deserves this, really. So do we all. We're going to stop being so nice to France in the World War 1990 series. Oh, and it's time for French Jews to leave. The French left hates Israel and Jews

Yeah...and over here don't underestimate Kamala. The press will turn hereinto a girl-boss-slay-queen and aren't you a racist/sexist MAGA loser for voting against her? Think it can't happen? The media dragged Joe over the finish line, didn't they? Smart GOPs (I know right?), conservatives, and MAGA patriots should be praying Joe stays in the race. We've no idea what will happen. We did see clips of Joe on Morning Joe this morning. The expression on Scarborough and Wife #3 are those of people in love. Watch Mika nod in affirmation. We expected her to hold up a hand and shout, 'Can I get an amen!'

The Voice of America reports: 'TEHRAN — Iranian naval destroyer has sunk while it was being repaired in a port near the Strait of Hormuz, state media reported Sunday. State-run IRNA news agency reported that the Sahand destroyer, being repaired at a wharf lost its balance due to water infiltration into the tanks.' Nonsense. It was the Jews. Meanwhile Netanyahu has set a quartet of redlines designed to scupper ceasefire talks. Good. Right now, the IDF is kicking the crap out of Hamas in Rafah and Gaza City. Finish 'em off, Bibi.

What Will's Watching: So we saw The Paper was on Netflix. This is Ron Howard's frenetic work about 24 hours in the life of a NYC tabloid based on the New York Post, more or less. Michael Keaton is Henry Hackett, an old-fashioned newsman who has to get the story, no matter what, every damn day. He leads a newsroom full of tough, sharp reporters who are in constant conflict with their stories, sources and each other. NYC is in the midst of a summer heatwave and the AC at the office is broken. The clock is ticking as Hackett races to get to the truth about a double murder before the 9 PM deadline. Oh, Hackett's 8 1/2 months pregnant wife is wondering when he's going to stop obsessing about his job and come home. The Paper is nothing but high stakes and tension. 4/4. It's The Paper week here at Stroock's Books.

What does this week hold for us? We'll finish the rough of Ambush at Lingayen Gulf. We'll edit the SAS/IRA raid chapter in World War 1990: Thatcher's War. We really gotta up our research game. Our study of Ireland in the 70s and 80s is profoundly depressing. Also, we'll be spending some mental energy on War Night. You know, with no dance taxi we complain of being a little bored at night. Why not set aside an hour and write a little?

Monday Metal. In all our reading of modern Ireland, we discovered 'the greatest guitar player we'd never heard of'. We sure hadn't heard of Rory Gallagher. What the actual F? Lord have mercy:

And that's just an intro to the man. Who in the hell's Jimmy Page again?
