Meet the Mets...Greet the Mets

We had two options for this post title. Either 'Meet the Mets, Greet the Mets...' or 'Beat the Mets, Cheat the Mets...' It's a New York thing.

So the Mets were plodding along, down 3-0 to the Braves in the top of the 8th, and we're singing 'Beat the Mets...Cheat the Mets....' The Mets rally and take the lead 6-3 in the top of the 8th. OMG we messaged a diehard Mets fan friend of ours. Closer Edwin Diaz blows the lead in the bottom half of the inning. OMG we message our friend once more. Then the Mets retake the lead on an improbable 2 run homer from Francisco Lindor in the top of the 9th. 'I don't believe, what I just saw!' We proclaimed. IYKYK. Manager Carlos Mendoza, very unwisely in our view, leaves Diaz in for the bottom of the 9th. He hangs on to get the win and redemption. The Mets are in the playoffs.

We've seen a lot of baseball in our 51 years. But we've never seen anything like that. Lindor's is the biggest Mets homerun since Piazza's post 9-11 blast, or perhaps Robin Ventura's grand single in the 1999 playoffs...against the infamous Braves. Oh, and sorry Mets fans, Francisco Lindor is a great, and now all time Met, but Soheil Ohtani is the NL MVP. It's not even close. Future Weight Watchers pitch man Pete Alonso contributed nothing to either rally, of course. The Mets would be nuts to bring him back.

Also in the world of baseball, the great and notorious Pete Rose has died. No, he still doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. Rose broke rule #1, he bet on baseball. And he spent decades lying about having done so. If Rose had just shut up for a season or two, gone away and toured the minors or high schools talking about baseball, he'd have been let back in and all would have been forgivin. But no, he spent decades shooting his mouth off and embarrassing the game. No. Not now. Not ever. We hope Rose finds the peace which seems to have eluded him in post-baseball life.

Israel has invaded Lebanon. The Israelis are being tightlipped and asking the public not to share info, pass on videos etc etc. So our normal sources don't have as much info to share this morning. The info blackout tells us a lot, actually. We recall the Israelis going dark during Operation Defensive Shield in 2002. Defensive Shield won the Second Intifada and was the beginning of the end of Yassir Arafat. We do know that the IDF has called for the evacuation of 20 villages in southern Lebanon. The Israelis are saying the incursion is 'limited' whatever that means. They're also saying no deal till we've done what we set out to do.

Putin has called for Israel to withdraw from Lebanon immediately. Haha, get bent, Vlad. Reminder, Stroock's Books rescinded Putin's Friend of the Jew status.

Well, the IDF announced that during the previous months it has already carried out 70 raids 5-10 km deep inside Lebanon. The imams are right, the Jew is clever.

Iran is planning an imminent ballistic missile attack on Israel, they say. Perhaps we're giving in to overconfidence, but this would be a mistake. You know, the IAF has practiced long range operations via strikes on the Houthis in Yemen. They've been precision bombing targets in Gaza and Lebanon for nearly a year. Stroock's Books message to Iran is one word: don't.

Today is Jimmy Carter's 100th birthday. Happy Birthday, sir. A failed president certainly, but we can still think of half a dozen good things he did. A great man in his own way, and an interesting man. Farmer, nuclear submariner....We hate it when people compare Joe to Jimmy Carter. Not even Carter deserves that.

We see October Surprise is trending on twitter. This one's easy. Joe resigns and Kamala becomes president.

  1. Would not be surprised if Biden resigns, it would give Harris magisterial oversight to decide an election.
