Blue and Strength and Weights and Rubble

Happy Monday, Stroock's Book celebrants. We had a fine Mother's Day barbeque with dear neighbors followed by presents for Mrs. Stroock. The present we ordered won't arrive till Tuesday. Oh well. We hope it's worth the wait.

We are expecting a week with intermittent rain and are eagerly awaiting the NJDEP reservoir update [Why do you get hung up on things like that-Ed?]. We dunno.

Wow, Dow futures up a thousand. Looks like we bought at the right time.

So, Hamas is releasing Edan Alexander as a gesture of goodwill toward President Trump. Israel gives up nothing. This is good. This shows the power of American diplomacy.  And oh look, Hamas is releasing Alexander with no 'ceremony' whatsoever.

What's going to happen in the Middle East the next few days? Trump talks a lot. Exit question, will Trump shoot his mouth off?*

Ah, we see Edan Alexander's hometown is Tenafly, NJ, about half an hour from here. Honestly, that's not very descriptive. Almost everywhere in northern New Jersey is about half an hour from here. Anyway, Tenafly is hosting a vigil/watch party.

A long article titled 10 Commandments for Fighting Anti-Semitism. Here's an interesting point, 'Do not ignore the truth about strength and weakness...The explanation is this: That Jews everywhere are despised and vulnerable when Israel is weak.' This is why we hate the Holocaust. It teaches Jews to be weak. And Jewish obsession with the Holocaust looks weak. And that's why we love the demolition of Gaza. Israel projects strength. When we go to the gym, wearing an Israeli flag T-shirt and lift, we project strength.

Monday Metal: yesterday while lifting weights we listened to Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction from beginning to end. This was the first time we'd heard some of those tracks in years (decades). Appetite's deep tracks are raw, rude, and full of energy. Also quite disturbing. Axl sings a lot about heroin and prostitution. None of the songs really stand out for us. We'd say Mr. Brownstone is the best of the deep tracks. But Appetite does show us how talented the band was. Nothing in 1987 sounded like GnR.

On another note we vividly recall the first time we saw GnR on MTV, in February right before a school dance. We thought Welcome to the Jungle was both gay and retarded at first. Go back and look at the video. That hair. We came around. We remember buying the tape, listening to it on the way home and hearing Paradise City for the first time. We knew Paradise City would be a hit. And so it was.

DOGE report: worked on Thatcher's War Londonderry/UDR chapter and researched South Armagh. We'll go back over the Londonderry/UDR chapter today and probably let it sit after that.

*He might. Palestinian state?
