Tuesday Sports Reminiscence and International Relations Wrap

Feet still recovering so gym yesterday or today, damn it. Every day we don't work out we grow weaker while our enemies grow stronger.

In other health news we had a regularly scheduled appointment with the pulmonologist today. He pronounced himself pleased.

Bla-bla Israel....oh my. The Israelis hit Hamas leadership in Qatar. Hamas says they missed. Annon Israeli sources say they took out 4-8 Hamas cabinet members. Whom does the readership believe? Trump's statement on the attack is all over the place. Our own sense is the Israels have hit everything they've aimed at during this war. But we await events.

One supposition. Hamas is no longer acting as intermediary between Israel and Hamas. Assuming Hamas' leadership is dead, there may be no one left to negotiate with anyway. Exit question: has the Netanyahu government given up hope of getting the hostages back?

A friend who is in the know, and who is in an industry that would know, says Trump's policies are 'carpet bombing' the economy.

Meet the Mets, Met the Mets...So the 1986 Mets coasted to 108 wins. Along the way they bullied everyone they played. The '86 Mets were notorious brawlers. Here's one brawl. Here's another The Mets bullied the rest of the league but didn't quite know what to do when the opposition stood up to them.

In 1985 they couldn't beat the Cardinals, who weren't very good in 1986. In the NLCS, the Mets beat the Houston Astros in 6 games, though thankfully the series didn't go to game 7 in which they would have to face righty Mike Scott. Scott had already beaten them twice, giving up one run in two complete games. The Boston Red Sox beat the Mets in the first two games of the World Series and then won game 5 and almost game 6...Ace starter Dwight Gooden went 0-2.

A great Mets team won the World Series...but the first cracks in the team appeared.
