A good midweek morning to all Stroock's Books reader(s) across the globe, except the Canadians. You guys suck and so do the Canadian Blue Jays. Blue Jays 6, Dodgers 2 grumble....[Aren't you a Yankees fan? You know, you guys aren't supposed to like the Dodgers at all -Ed]. Meh, we don't really follow the Yankees anymore and we respect dominant teams like the Dodgers [But you're not even sure if LA is part of America anymore -Ed]. We aren't. Better LA than Canada.
Hamas violated the ceasefire deal, Israel pounded Hamas. So much for Hamas' hope that Trump would prevent the Israelis from taking military action against Hamas. Hamas' leverage against Israel is minimal, at best. What else can we say? Bomb Gaza.
So a few days ago the Feral Historian (a most excellent reviewer) released a video on the Niven/Pournelle classic alien invasion novel, Footfall. In his video, 'Footfall and Cultural Blind Spots', TFH goes over Footfall's plot and breaks down the many themes of this excellent novel including culture, command and leadership.
If reader(s) have ever picked up our own To Defend the Earth, they know Footfall was an important influence. We had plenty of follow up ideas. Unfortunately, the sequel, To Survive the Earth*, never sold so we never wrote subsequent novels like To Liberate Mars. Since watching TFH's video we admit to feeling some ju-ju, some buzz for that universe.
DOGE Report: Alright, we've read through all but two chapters of the first 55,000 words of Thatcher's War and we are...pleased. The battle of Derry awaits. One must needs prepare one's self mentally, emotionally and spiritually for the Derry read through. We are not prepared. We'll read through that other chapter we ain't yet read and probably write a scene or two. Reminder, 55,000 words is too short for a novel. We need another 5-10,000 words. We probably need more scenes describing the world 7-10 days after WWIII ends.
*As to why TSTE never sold, we remain baffled. It's pretty much the same novel as TDTE, with what we believe is a really cool and well executed battle at the end in which the Indian Space Navy battles the alien Jai for control of Ceres. Reminder, selling books is an art not a science. Anyone who tells you different is telling you something wrong.
