Good morning Stroock's Books enthusiasts and survivors. We'll see temps in the mid 50s today and clear skies. This is very Autumnal weather. Very autumnal indeed.
We enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs beat down the Washington Redskins last night 28-7. It's been nearly a quarter of a century since we lived in the DC Metro area among the Redskins' noxious and obnoxious fans. But we will never not hate DC's football team, whatever they call themselves.
We also caught an inning of the Dodgers and Blue Jays last night and saw Shohei Ohtani's homerun to deep centerfield. His second homer of the night. Remarkable. You suck, Canada.
Jersey Beat: The Trafalgar Group's Robert C. Cahaly says the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races are 'tight' and the Dems are 'worried'. We agree. One week out, nationwide, even in NYC, the momentum is away from the Dems and toward the GOP (Killer Andy C. counts as GOP for our purposes here). Back in 2021, polls were off by something like five points in New Jersey. If they're off by 5 points again Jack Ciattarelli will win. But we just don't know. Rich Baris seems pessimistic. What have we been saying this whole race? [Eschew exuberance? Ed]. Eschew exuberance.
We're reminded of the week before the 2016 presidential election. Back then we just didn't quite see how could Trump put together 270 electoral votes. We didn't see him sweeping PA, WI, and MI. But he did. Will Jack?
FB tells us that 17* years ago we posted, 'Off to the AC/DC concert. Rock on.' Ahhhh....that was the first full show of the Black Ice Tour in Pottsville, PA. We were maybe 10 rows back, dead center. We remember lights, and sound and rock. We were....amazed. A magical night. Also, a little band from Ireland opened for AC/DC. That's right, this was our intro to The Answer.
DOGE Report: Yesterday we read through the World War 1990: Thatcher's War prologue, intro, and world whip around chapters. So far so, 'Still a bit wordy and unorganized.'
On a whim we sent the Thatcher's War world whip around chapter to a few people. They were mostly positive. One reader thought the chapter could be broken in two as it features several scenes introducing readers to what's happening in the rest of the world a week after the war.
*A different universe. Only one kid, we were still a sub at Bernards High, and we hadn't yet published a novel.
