Good morning reader(s) of Stroock's Books and happy October.
Why is Caltech visiting this blog? Not that we're complaining. Say high, fellas!
Temperatures will remain autumnal today.
Tonight, Yom Kippur begins. You people know the drill. Huh, the Dodgers are playing tonight...60 years on. IYKYK. Shona Tova. Also, be on the look out for Islamic terror tonight and tomorrow.
So after our pointless doctor's visit on Monday, yesterday we took the time to answer the patient satisfaction survey and wrote several pithy, on point comments about our experience. Nut graph, as the J-school losers would say: you suck.
The government is shutdown, they say. Whatever. The Dems are really wrongfooted on this one, we think. They're base is nuts and 'fighting' Trump is all they care about. These people will be running New York City in just a few months. NYC deserves them and they deserve NYC. Governor Murphy should call out the National Guard and blockade Manahattan and the Bronx.
The world awaits Hamas' response to Trump's Arab backed Gaza peace plan, or Israeli victory plan, we should say. Feels like Hamas is leaning towards 'no.' Very well. War then. Meanwhile, Israel Radar warns that Iran is still a threat and more strikes may/will be necessary. Which is a great reason for wrapping things up in Gaza.
At Claremont, a long essay on everything wrong with Britain today and why the UK (or Yookay) sucks. This blog loves the Yookay slang. [Don't you live in Chindia?-Ed]. We do Ed, we do. But here, the men aren't milling about midday smoking cigarettes and harassing women. They have jobs, usually in pharma or tech. Very often the women do too. We wrote this a decade ago and it's still true: Subtle Wealth. Anyway, Britain, your ruling class hates your guts, and don't you forget it.
Frankly, we don't think the country can be saved. Labour is evil. The Tories are useless, and we don't much trust Herr Farage.
Jersey Beat: one poll has the gubernatorial race close, the other has Democrat Mikie Sherrill ahead by 7. Our gut, the vibe if you will, says the race is close. Sherrill is having another bad week with her own children being recommended to the naval academy. What are the odds? It just comes down to which pollster has figured out the electorate this year.
DOGE Report: we read through one chapter of World War 1990: Thatcher's War. It looked decent enough. We realized we might solve the book's length problem by dividing it into parts I and II [Really? It took you this long to think of that?-Ed] Shut up Ed, or I'll report you to ICE. This post Derry [Londonderry-Ed] chapter looks pretty good, even if it's just a lot of people sitting around and yapping like a bunch of wine moms after Pilates.
