Down a Thursday

Good morning, Stroock's Books. Right now, temps are below freezing. We'll eschew listing the actual temp so as not to confuse European and Canadian reader(s). [What is it with you and the metric system anyway?-Ed]. No one ever said, 'I'll have 568 milliliters of Guinness'. The Metric system sucks.

Ideas, because why not?

Empires at War. 'Prime Minister, the Japanese have bombed Singapore.' We've talked about this one before, an alternate history novel in which the British and Japanese Empires are at war in say, 1940. Interesting premise, no? We like the idea of the Japanese racing against time as the United States slowly gather's its strength in the Philippines.

Battlestar Galactica, the Cylons find a human planet, only it's basically a cross between Sparta, Prussia, and Israel and has been waiting for the Cylons for a hundred yahren. Needless to say, these guys are ready for a fight.

Star Wars, Imperator. The daily ins and outs of an Imperial Star Destroyer. Star Trek, but with the Empire. And don't get excited, this crew and its officers are staunchly loyal. At best the captain is a touch cynical after a long career. And the First Officer is scheming for the captain's job.

Putin's War. Russia at War with China. Chinese nuke Moscow in an attempt to take out Putin. They miss him. Sadly overtaken by events.

To Defend the Earth. Novels about mankind liberating Mars, fighting the aliens around Saturn and Jupiter, an alien centric novel. unfortunately, the readership did not like To Survive the Earth. Oh well.

Pershing's War 1919. Pershing's grand offensive into Germany. This novel is 32,000 words and we've no desire to finish it. A rare misfire on our part. Or is it? Originally we had planned to release this with a follow up history of various AEF divisions. We're about halfway done with the history too. Our library is all boxed up and we haven't worked on this project since 2018. It's probably too much work to get it restarted. We sigh forlornly.

Semi-related. Ken Burns has a big PBS doc about the American Revolution [You mean War of the Rebellion?-Ed]. If that helps you. Devotees will recall we have an MA in the American Revolution....and we're just not that interested. We're not interested in a lot of things we used to be interested in. [Oh no-Ed]. Oh yes, it's the return of the Thursday Downer.

  1. Would love Putin's war and To defend the earth!

PS Metric always beats imperial. We just order half a liter. How many inches in a yard, yards in a like etc. Confusing as hell 💪
