In Which Will breaks out his Hammer and Sickle

Good morning, Stroock's Books kibbutzim and Happy Yuri Gagarin Day....comrades. In honor of the first man, we present to you Seven Stories of Communists, Military Mayhem, and Satanic Scoundrels.  Seven Stories includes a tale of a Soviet cosmonaut who goes Godzilla on a planet of Lilliputians. That was fun to write, a little boy's fantasy. Related: We'll be finishing the Pancho Villa short story today. We've begun thinking about our next project, a contribution to an anthology of WWII short stories.

We've more or less nuked the gout, though there's some soreness this morning. We got to the gym yesterday making for a back-to-back days. Cardio Wednesday, weights Thursday. As always, we wear an Israel T-shirt at the gym. This is about the only thing we can do in this war. Also, services tonight, that's something.

More good news for Israel this morning as they've taken out the head of Hamas internal security in Jabayla, and the European parliament has condemned UNWRA textbooks. Yeah, the war is going horribly, it sure is. A real quagmire.  We await Iran's retaliation. The longer Iran waits, the weaker they look. Whatever they're planning better be good. Tonight? A few hours from this writing, shabbat begins in Israel. Here's a chilling question. What if Iran already has nuclear weapons? Just testing one in Iran would be a huge, game changing deal, and Netanyahu would be the man who let it happened. Unfair, but true.

We suppose it's time to talk about OJ Simpson. These OJ Simpson jokes are just killing me....[Clap...clap...clap-Ed]. It's been 30 years now since OJ murdered Ron and Nicole. We recommend Hot Air's post on the murders, car chase, trial and acquittal. There's no explaining to young people just how thoroughly the OJ Simpson spectacle took over the entire country. One could not get away from OJ even if one tried [Like Ron and Nicole-Ed]. The OJ Simpson thing was the most annoying even of our lifetime.

It was said he was the first black athlete accepted by White America. Maybe he was. By the time we were getting into sports in the mid-80s, OJ was just a broadcaster on NBC, flashy, dynamic and fun. People today are talking about his hilarious role as Lt. Nordberg in The Naked Gun trilogy and rightfully so. But we remember OJ Simpson playing himself as TD Parker in HBO's comedy-drama First and Ten.* In 1994 OJ was a different man, and America was a different place. Dang, we're getting nostalgic. Not today, though.

*An excellent source of T&A in the late 80s for a teenaged boy.
