Ninety-Five

...That's how old my grandfather is today. He moves slow but he has his brains. Heck, the doctor told him a few years ago that he's too old to get Alzheimers. He swore if he hit 80 he'd star smoking again (he had a pipe). Alas, no way. This March his second wife died. Now he lives in Manhattan with full time nurses.

Now, to appreciate how remarkable the old bastard reaching 95 is, remember this.

He was born in 1922. He was a sickly asthmatic little boy when that killed people. He actually had to lie his way into the army during WWII. The old bastard remembers life without antibiotics for Chirst sake.

Here's some other things he remembers:

-the Weimer Republic
-people who fought in the Civil War
-people who remembered people born in the 18th century
-the George Washington Bridge and Lincoln Tunnel being built
-Babe Ruth (he was out there in the right field bleachers)
-US History in one section rather than US-I and US-II
