Footnotes for Pershing

So we've been footnoting Pershing in Command.

At this point in the process this entails going through and completing the original footnote, which usually just had a title and page number, getting things formatted properly, and so on.

Frankly we're enjoying showing off some of our more obscure sources. These are the divisional histories, written after the war by the divisional alumni associations. Sometimes we have a simple POD reprint. But sometimes we have an original.

Behold:

That's Americans All, the History of the 42nd Rainbow Division, or the Rainbows. This book is very useful but a bear to get through. The author gives us a great combat history but these are always buried between fifty pages of personal notes and remembrances, also useful.

Anyway once the footnotes are done it's on to the maps.

  2. Not really. THey took the Marines, put them in a brigade combined them with another and created the 2nd Division. I don't know anything about Pershing hating the Marines, in the beginning he thought they were the best troops on hand.

  3. When I was in the Marines it was taught that he hated us that's why there is no Marine division there was anther Marine brigade in France but kept in the rear acting as supply troops

  4. Legend has it that the reason there was no Marine units in the European theater in WW2 is the army was jealous of the fame the Marines got at Bellow Wood
