What Kind of Man...?

The Great Nuclear War of 1975 continues apace. You people wanted war in Korea, you got war in Korea.

We've been planning a narrative thread where a man treks cross-country to find his family....

[Gee where's that idea coming from?-Ed]

Yes, before Mrs. Stroock left, we actually told her that if there's a nuclear war, asteroid strike, etc etc we'd come to her.

Anyway, we can't quite find the man's center. We know his motivation, of course. But what kind of a man is he. Is he a rugged mountaineer? Is he a teacher swept up by events? If he's the latter it's kind of a cliché. If he's the latter, is he really going to have the wherewithal to get in the station wagon and drive? Would he even own a gun?

Also, where's he starting and where's he going to? Our only real juju here is for the Northeast, and there's already plenty of Northeast in this book. Write what you know as they say. And we love the idea of our man walking across the frozen Hudson at the Tappan Zee Bridge. But there's already a couple of Hudson River scenes. Does that matter? How many books can Steven King write about Maine?

We're stuck.

  1. Do it in reverse say a steel worker left New York to work in say Portland or Seattle and is trying to make his way back to his family just your average blue collar worker trying to get home
