Canada Did This

So the detritus from a wildfire in Canada has blown over New Jersey. Last night we stepped outside and smelled, we thought, dozens of campfires. We thought we had a three alarmer going in Chindia. Hey Canada, you suck. Goddamn you Justin Trudeau. Goddamn you, you maniac.

At this very moment it feels like we're standing next to a campfire. Right now, the air has a gray/yellow tint. You know the air in the nuclear war series? This is what we envisioned.

In other New Jersey news, Chris Christie has entered the presidential race. He was good here in New Jersey, he was. But Christies' time has passed. Also, this blog no longer trusts him.

After hearing Nikki Haley on Ukraine we don't want here at state.

There are primary elections in New Jersey today and we're not bothering with them.

Somerset County just dropped off a pair of big, unsightly, unwieldly recycling bins. We don't like it. We don't like it one bit. First, they came for my old recycling bit...

Former Mets phenom pitcher, and current Texas Ranger, Jacob DeGrom is out for the year. We could have told the Rangers not to spend $30 million a year on DeGrom. He's always hurt. Suckers

Tucker Carlson is back. We liked what we saw. He did call Zelensky 'rat like'. We heard it right away. This was certainly deliberate, designed to cause controversy and make all the right enemies. Well played, sir. Well played indeed. There's a lot of crowing about Tucker's massive, massive numbers last night. We don't know what to make of them. I was there when right-blogosphere was patting itself on the back. How'd that work out?

We spent a lot of time yesterday researching Norwegian coastal defenses. It's a regular Navarone up in those fjords. Okay Norwegian forts didn't have massive 16-inch guns. Mostly these were small posts with 75 and 120 mm guns. We hadn't planned to take readers inside one of these things. But as it is written, we plan, god laughs. Showing one of these forts gives us a chance to differentiate World War 1990: Norway from other World War 1990 novels.

Kind of cool:

We just got the new cover of World War 1990: The Weser and we hate it.

Last night we saw Neil Gaiman's eight rules for writers. We've often quoted him, roughly, 'When someone reads your thing they want another thing just like'. We agree with everything he says here

Here's something that we don't say to ourselves enough, 'Perfection is like chasing the horizon. Keep moving.' We've put aside World War 1990: The Final Storm numerous times, as Gaiman says in point 4, and reading it anew. The read is going...fine. We edit till we're satisfied. But are we chasing the horizon.
