Last Full Week of School

We admit we're looking forward to summer. No school, no dance, no dance taxi service.

Hmmm...lots of blog traffic, especially for old posts. Something is up. Reminder, if we get zapped, reader(s) can always find us on Substack. It's not that we're paranoid, it's just that there are people out to get us.

We hit the gym Saturday and took Youngest Daughter to the pool on Sunday. Spending a couple of hours in the water is fantastic exercise. We're a bit sore. Like an idiot we forgot sunscreen. Fortunately given our desert heritage the sun likes us so we didn't burn, and Youngest Daughter lathered up before we left. Also, the sky was cloudy and hazy. Anyway, great back-to-back days. Today we rest.

Last night we barbequed, and keeping with Stroock family tradition, made way too much food. We're good for the next few days.

The Ukranian counteroffensive (the Narrative's term) continues apace. Now we're seeing lots of pictures of knocked out Uke mine clearing equipment. By our estimation the Ukes have made some minor progress on various fronts, but have scored no major breakthrough. That's the whole point of mechanized warfare. The Narrative envisioned Ukrainian forces piercing Russian lines, driving cowardly Wagner Group mercs before them, and then galloping across the green pastures to victory. This has not yet happened. Exit question, would the Ukes assign their vaunted Leopard tanks to any but the main effort?

What Will's Watching: The Searchers. A classic, of course, and probably the greatest western ever.* Having watched John Ford's Cavalry trilogy we saw The Searchers in the que and thought, why not? Man is this one dark film filled with many uncomfortable moments. When Ethan comes home his brother Aaron is distant, leaving him on the porch. When Marty takes off after Ethan, Lori gives him her best horse. When Wild Goose lays down next to Marty after they're 'married' he kicks her away. These scenes (and others) make us squirm. Do we even need to rate the movie? You people know how good it is.

What's up this week? We're going to try to finish up the Battle of Lingyen Fjord chapter in World War 1990: Norway. We got together a pretty good character sketch for a Soviet VDV battalion commander. He's got an eyepatch. We're also going to readthrough the air strike scenes in World War 1990: The Final Storm

The general Soviet plan: An overland drive by 6th Army across Finnmark toward the Froy Defence Line. In phase 2 the Soviets launch a combined Spetznaz/seaborne assault on the Froy command post on Lingyenfjord while land forces briefly violate Finnish territory and hit the line's southeastern flank. Meanwhile a Soviet amphibious force is attacking Tromso while a VDV regiment drops on same. VDV Regiments will be attacking Andoya and Bardufuss too. Monday Metal. When you got nuthin' you still got The Anwer. This one is off an EP and fairly rare. We had to special order it:

*What others?
