Friday Afternoon Fever

Our exercise regimen this week consisting of only two trips to the gym + supplemental activity has left us tired, sore, and dragging. We don't understand why.

The Ukrainians launched a sea-drone attack on the Russian navy. Well done. Spectacular, yes. But we don't think this will affect the front.

So Desantis and Newsom are going to debate in the fall. Good...good (said in the Emperor's voice). This is the conversation the nation should be having. Not which doddering old man can shout at the other more. Don't think Newson can't win a presidential election. He can. Results don't matter with Dems, only attitudes. And besides, so long as the Dems control the means of counting, they will win.

After watching Saturday Night Fever this week, we started the forgotten sequel, Staying Alive. So far, we like it, unlike the critics who hated it. Tony Manero is out on his own trying to make it as a dancer. Five years older, he's more mature and more likable than the 19 year old Tony in SNF. Staying Alive is a very New York movie, very 80s. The 80's are in full swing. The songs have power chords, keyboards etc. Dancers are wearing bright colors, leggings, etc etc. But the city still has one foot in the 70s, there's still plenty of grit, plenty of graffiti. Rudy Giuliani is a decade off. Interestingly the film was a box office success.

2003 and Me. We're deep, deep into the summer. After jogging in the afternoon, we lift weights at night. Also at night we explore Led Zeppelin. We can't find a decent book about them. We're wondering if buying a lot of Robert Plant CDs is worth our time. It wasn't. We're also preparing for a new fulltime teaching gig at a second-rate yeshiva in Passaic in the fall. We've no idea what's in store for us and are completely unready in every way. Little bastards. Work on A Line through the Desert is slowing down, because we really don't know how to write yet.
