Will's Good Idea for the Week of 10/30/23

Mrs. Stroock's Eagles beat the Redskins yesterday. We are pleased. The Giants are a disgrace. We went to a local sports bar to watch the game and had not one but two pints. Look at us. We did not wear our Israel hat to the bar. It only takes one buzzed jackass to cause a problem. Behold the news below.

Jewish schools in France today have been evacuated due to a bomb threat. An anti-Jewish pogrom in Dagestan last night. What the hell are Jews doing in Dagestan? And another anti-Jewish pogrom at Cornell. Professor Jacobson has the story. Soon, somewhere in the west, Jews will be assailed and murdered by a mob. The campaign against Hamas in America continues.

Mathew Perry, Chandler Bing from Friends, has died. After the first few seasons we concluded Friends was stupid and mid (as the kids say). Friends was The Brady Bunch for the 90's, which is a very Gen-X thing to say. Still, we liked and related to Chandler. Perry ingeniously portrayed Chandler as an everyman, a bit of a dork, who uses irony to get by. Chandler was the guy in the middle between the well accomplished nerd, Ross, and the good looking jock who could get girls, Joey. In that way Perry's Chandler encapsulated the Gen-X zeitgeist.

Our old professor, Bruce Gudmundsson, has some thoughts on the Israeli invasion of Gaza, Bite and Hold and Beit Hanoun. Gudmundsson argues that Beit Hanoun (northeastern Gaza) is a salient extending from the Gaza salient and must fall first. He predicts further such bite and hold operations as the war goes on. This is a first go, in which the Israelis will learn much.

Once again, this war has rendered null the Israel Strikes series. Not that we really had any good ideas for a third novel. The original idea was for a third Israel Strikes novel about a war between Israel and the Muslim Brotherhood run Egypt. But the Egyptian military overthrew the Brotherhood and the World War 1990 series took care of our armored warfare fix

We do have a good idea for the week of 10/30/23, and that's to write more stories for the nuclear war short story compilation, War Night. Devotees will recall we wrote one such story last spring. We've begun another this morning, about a couple of young White House staffers who see DC as it all goes up. Given the success of the series there's no reason not to proceed.
