Good afternoon, Stroock's Books faithful.
So we were blogging along and working on our Saigon on the Thames story this morning when we noticed out computer wasn't charging. We seem to have dealt with the issue, including recalling all our passwords and making sure we can log into whatever we need to if we need to get a new computer. At the moment the computer is charging just fine. We hate that we don't know why. Please, Hashem, just one week without a technical problem. Please?
Anyway, some readers think we're not taking Ireland's hobbit president Michael Jenkins and his Juden hass (how do you say that in Gaelic?) seriously enough. While it is true Jenkins hates Jews, and Ireland has a Jew hate problem, we don't want to castigate the whole island [Really? You've written posts in which you sounded like a combination of Cromwell and Paisley-Ed]. An Irish ban has been suggested. We'd hate to give up Guinness and Jamesons. [You haven't had a drink in at least two weeks -Ed]. Yeah but...[What's this about?-Ed].
Related, we're having some warmish weather finally this week and we're sorely tempted to hit the back porch with an Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Short Story and a bottle. But no. Our last cigar was New Years Eve, and one of our goals for the new year was to go a month without one. We're close.
You know how everyone thought Trump was trolling about buying Greenland and now people kinda think it's gonna happen? Well, Stroock's Books doesn't think Trump is messing around with the whole, Gazans to leave Gaza thing. The Times of Israel says, 'US President Donald Trump dug in his heels Monday over a controversial suggestion that large numbers of Gazans take refuge in Egypt and Jordan, shrugging off wall-to-wall opposition to the proposal from Arab leaders.' Ha-ha, yesssss! The Israelis should use the Gaza rubble to build sea-breaks, rock walls, and quays. Bomb Gaza.
Slowly, Trump is getting his cabinet nominees. Marco Rubio at State and Kristi Noem at Homeland Security are interesting picks. Do recall that these two rode into Washington on the 2010, anti-Obamacare tea party backlash. Both were popular with the movement, Rubio especially so with this blog. We supported him in the 2016 GOP primary. Alas it was not to be. Dems thought they could make a lot of trouble in the cabinet nomination process, but our read is Trump gets Tulsi Gabbard but not Kennedy. Which would be for the best IMHO.
We remind reader(s) that book sales are an art, not a science. On Sunday we had a huge sales spike, for no reason that we can discern other than the algorithm decided, 'Let's push some of Will's books.' On Monday sales declined drastically, declined drastically with extreme prejudice. We are left with our old quandary, how to grow the audience. This blog doesn't sell books. The traction we're getting on Substack has gained us a few fans and corresponding sales....At this point we don't know of any advertising that would work. It's not 2013 any longer, when a combo of digital, magazines and blog ads sold thousands and thousands of copies of Israel Strikes. We really don't know what to do. Exit question: what will Tuesday bring?
We are wrapping up the above mentioned Saigon on the Thames story. We are also getting War Night ready to go to editing. Our Man on the Ground in Ireland is looking at the Morning Rory story. Hmmm....maybe the stories shouldn't have titles, just locales.
From there writing World War 1990: Thatcher's War will really begin in earnest. We already introed a lot of Irish characters on the night the war began. Now we need a chapter where we update readers on what those Irish characters are doing a week after the armistice. This chapter will also prep them for action.
Will's Good Idea for the week of 1/26/25 (supplemental): For a few years we've written World War 1990 novels with a one forward, one back policy. That is, advance the narrative with one novel, go back and do something we'd like to fill in with another novel. Maybe we should just plow ahead with the post-war novels these next few years? Might not be a good business decision. Upon this problem, we shall dwell.
