Good afternoon, Stroock's Books reader(s).
We arose with knee inflammation once again. This is certainly a problem.
Tonight is Purim. All together now: they tried to kill us. They failed. Let's eat. We'll go to temple for raucous celebration and shouting every time the rabbi and cantor say, 'Heymon!' Great kids holiday. Normally the womenfolk bake a delicious pastry called hamantaschen. This seems like a good time to remind Gazans and West Bank People about the eventual fate of all enemies of the Jews.
Apropos of nothing we found this old Peter Hitchens piece: 'We Didn't Win the War,' in which he argues, well, Britain didn't really win World War Two. Hitchens has a point. The US propped up Britain through the war. The RAF held off the Luftwaffe and prevented German invasion, only to see Britain invaded by the US Army. By the late 1940s Britain was falling apart and the government was rationing everything. In 1956 President Eisenhower humiliated Prime Minister Atlee by threatening to crash the pound if he didn't call off the Suez disaster. As for Britain today, we don't think it's worth saving.
Keeping 2005 Alive: 20 years ago we were house hunting. After having bitterly lost one bid we found the house in which we currently sit. We were one of six families to place a bid on the house and only won because the owners were in the same industry as Mrs. Stroock. We'd finalize things and move in a few months later.
DOGE report: more going over the Battle of Derry. A few problems occurred to us and maybe there's a better plot in there somewhere. It may be time to set aside this chapter for a bit and work on something else [would be wise-Ed].
