Saturday Updates

The AC is fixed. The same technician from last Friday arrived at 9:15 yesterday. One could tell he was thinking, 'The chances of me getting out of this place alive are high but not 100 percent'. He was here three hours and got more comfortable as time passed. He replaced the motor blower and mother board. Usually we chit chat and banter a bit with repairmen and the like. Not this time.

Management never did call us. We seriously considered withholding payment until a manager called us. But why prolong a battle we never wanted to fight? And besides, management wouldn't care. Still, to whom do we address the complaint letter? Don't worry. Mrs. Stroock, who does customer service for a living (call monitoring for example) is taking to social media, Yelp, BBB, etc etc. Her moves will be swift and deadly, like Operation Hailstone. We remain in awe of that 17-year-old girl we met in 1994.

For our part we've been researching the company whom we foolishly trusted and have learned much. Shame on us for trusting them. Oh, and we found a news segment in which they were busted for an upselling scam. Really blatant stuff. Next week we name names.

The AC Wars are over, but there is no victor. A company to which we'd been loyal for over decade has squandered that loyalty. We don't know why. We hope it was worth it.

We had a terrible week trying get this problem fixed. This morning we awake hungover, almost. Hungover from dismay and anger.

This was not how we wanted to spend the first week of summer. We had hoped to relax after a long school year, and a month filled with tasks. Real IDs, dance recitals, HS graduations, parties, Rutgers orientations. Instead we were on the phone two or three times a day getting angrier and angrier.

We can't believe how enraged we were last Friday night. We regret chewing out that manager. Not because we feel bad about it, but because there was so much more incompetence and mendacity to come.

We got in a Judaism last night. This was our rabbi's last Friday night service as he's retiring. We pondered the man from the pew during this interesting moment. During the oneg (after-service schmooze) we thanked him for all he did for our daughters.

Trump predicts a hostage deal next week. We believe him. A deal is much more likely and palatable with Iran chastened and humiliated. As for the big beautiful peace plan, we shall see.

The Things.

A nasty, distracted week in which we still got some work done on World War 1990: The Managua Campaign. The Battle of Los Banos has begun. World War 1990: The Managua Campaign is 13,000 words.
