The Tuesday After the Monday Move In

Good Tuesday, people of Stroock's Books. As we write this the temperature is a cool 56 degrees. Autumn has arrived early, but we bet summer has one last scorcher in store for us.

So begins the last week of the fabled Stroock summer.

Yesterday we moved Oldest Daughter into Rutgers. While daughters and mother decorated the dorm room, we went to the dorm lounge and put together a desk hutch. Two other dads showed up and went to work on similar projects. We communed.

When it was time to leave an odd, empty feeling came over us.  'What is this salty discharge coming from my eyes?' We asked ourselves. We swore we wouldn't get emotional. Rutgers is not more than half an hour away, etc etc. They don't prepare you for that one, they just don't. Bastards.

It was 20 years ago about this time that Mrs. Stroock's cousins stopped by while moving their oldest into Fordham. 'It seems like we just brought her home from the hospital,' her dad told us. 'It went by fast.' We don't feel like the last 18 year have been fast. Not at all. Still...

We drove past the football stadium. Go Scarlet Knights!

Later that day, Mrs. Stroock left the house on business, and we poured ourselves a couple of drinks and indulged in an Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva, our 19th (20th?) of the year. Ill advised, but sometimes a man needs stiff drink [You were drinking Boddington's -Ed]. Yeah, but whisky at 2 in the afternoon usually leads to saloon brawls and gunfights [You wish-Ed].

Needless to say, we were a little distracted yesterday, so a rare miss here.

Moving on...

FB tells us that 15 years ago we saw AC/DC play Giants stadium. Let there be rock n roll...

FB also tells us that 13 years ago Governor Chris Christie was throwing us off of LBI because of an approaching hurricane. We miss this version of Christie. Do click over.

No, the president can't ban burning the American Flag. Burning or desecrating the American flag is protected speech and the Supreme Court has ruled thusly. But the Establishment will lock up a driver for doing a donut on a tranz-flag crosswalk...so why not? These are not our rules.

Speaking of flags...by now reader(s) have seen reports of the English opposition hoisting St. Geroge's flags across the land, much to the annoyance of the Establishment. Good on the flag hoisters, but it won't last. Kier Starmer will crush these people. Britain is lost, and will almost certainly become the world's second Islamic nuclear power when it elects Sadiq Kahn PM.

We admit to getting impatient with Netanyahu. To paraphrase Napoleon, if you're going to take Gaza City, take Gaza City. The threat, the plan, the mobilization are all just negotiating tactics, aren't they?
