ICE is nice...!

...Lazlo! Buddy! IYKYK.

Good day, fellow Stroock's Books enthusiasts.

Oh look, more anti-ICE violence. We'll reserve judgement till we know more but it looks like, well...yeah. They can't stop. They won't.

We got in a Judaism for Rosh Hashanah yesterday. We felt the service ran long. We get antsy in the pews like anyone else. The Rabbi asked an interesting question during his sermon: are you a casual Jew or a serious Jew? We're descended from German reform Jewry. So we're a casual Jew. So casual that we like bacon. Oh well. At least we're showing up. And have renewed our Judaism efforts ever since October 7th.

From there we drove Oldest Daughter back to Rutgers. Go Knights!

Sticking with sports...

Ha-ha, lol. The Giants to start Jaxon Dart this Sunday. That's four starting QB jobs Russell Wilson has lost. He sucks. Maybe with RB Cam Skattebo and WR Malik Nabors the Giants have a trio of stars to build the offense around just like Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys. Which leads us to...

What Will's Watching: the Netflix Cowboys doc. The latest episode covers the Cowboys overcoming the San Francisco 49rs. The Cowboys edged the Niners in the 1992 NFC Championship and then annihilated them in the 1993 NFC Championship. For younger reader(s) this was a huge deal. The 49rs won four Super Bowls In the 80s. Joe Montana was the best QB in the league. Those red and gold uniforms were synonymous with victory. The Niners were the absolute elite of the NFL. The Cowboys' victories signaled the changing of the guard. From then on the Cowboys were the league's elite. How we hated the Cowboys, as all decent people did.

So President Trump went to the UN and really let 'em have it. Good. We should expel that suck hole institution and turn the building into low-rent housing. Trump's was the greatest performance by an American at the UN since Ambassador Danial Patrick Moynihan's excoriating the UN 51 years ago. Enjoy.

News from your drunk wine aunt: Ynet tells us: 'Former U.S. vice president Kamala Harris accuses Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of undermining former president Joe Biden during the Gaza war in her new book, saying he hoped Donald Trump’s return to the White House would secure his political survival.' And?

Jersey beat: The New Jersey Globe reports, 'New Jersey PBS is expected to cease operations in July 2026 following WNET’s decision not to renew its agreement, the New Jersey Globe has learned. The decision comes after the federal government decided to cancel funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funded WNET, the parent company of THIRTEEN, the PBS New York affiliate.' Thank you, President Trump. We've been using the NJ Globe more because places like NJ.com are more and more relying on Trump rage bate stories. Dear NJ.com, we go to you for NJ news, not Trump news. You suck. Anyway, thoughts and prayers WNET. Thoughts and prayers.

DOGE report: The first 15,000 words of World War 1990: the Managua Campaign look pretty good. Look out for Fuerza Azteca....Mexican marines. The latest nuke story, about a farm family in Iowa(?), no Nebraska (!) is coming along real good. We got a short story back for editing. Excellent.

As we write this we're enjoying our first Arturo Fuente since 25 August. Also a couple of pints. We've nowhere to go this afternoon or evening so why not?
