Good morning, reader(s) of Stroock's Books. We awake tired and groggy to autumnal temperatures. We're testy, impatient, and bored.
In France, President Macron slams Trump for denying visas to Gazans and West Bank People.
Related...For the record, this blog supports Prime Minister Starmer's plan to admit Gazan students to Britain. The more the better. Bulldoze Free Derry Corner and build a Gazan Housing estate there.
This is not a good idea: 'Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to apply Israeli sovereignty over all the open areas of the West Bank during a press conference on Wednesday.' Smotrich really is an asshole. So is his fellow rightwing lunatic Itamar Ben Gvir. The sooner this pair is out of government the better.
Meanwhile, Ynet tells us Israel is about to ink a major economic deal with India. We lean forward and whisper into the mic, 'Sorry Europe, you don't matter anymore.'
What Will's Watching: The Big Red One. We haven't seen this in...15 years? Sorry, this movie is just bizarre. The Big Red One is a pastiche of scenes all weird in their own way. Maybe there's a surrealism and absurdity of war thing that a civilian like us just isn't getting. But still. We liked The Big Red One when we were a kid because, well, you know, Luke Skywalker is in it. We dunno, maybe we're just jaded.
What Will's also watching: The Netflix Dallas Cowboy doc. We've been thinking a lot about Cowboys' head coach Jimmy Johnson. He spent five years in Dallas and won two Super Bowls. Later he went to Miami and coached a mediocre team into the playoffs a couple of times. But we don't consider Johnson an all-time great coach. Johnson's not Lombardi or Belichick (about whom the less said the better). Johnson's not even Parcells. He's about on par with his 90s contemporaries. Johnson is in the HoF and we have no problem with that.
Be that as it may, in 1995 Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys. Barry Switzer is often unjustly maligned. The man won three college National Championships and a Super Bowl. Don't tell us Barry Switzer can't coach football.
